-
Military.com Installation Guide
You will need to create a user name and password to access the information on this site. I highly recommend doing so, because it contains more information than I could ever copy and paste into this web site for you. There is informatoin on housing, rules and regulations, base services (complete with contact information), travel, detailed information about medical services provided both on and off base, and a great "must know" section.
-
MilitaryHOMEFRONT
Previously SITES, MilitaryHOMEFRONT contains a lot of information that will help you through your move. The site is a little tough to navigate at first, so I will try to point you in the right direction here: Go to MilitaryHOMEFRONT, then click Troops and Families, then click Moving, and there are links to helpful aids such as Plan My Move (a customizable tool that fills in a calendar for you of all the things you need to do), and an Installation Overview (a very useful and informative packet that you can print a copy of for yourself, but it's a huge document, so you might prefer to download it from my Welcome Aboard Package page in either Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat format for viewing offline). This web site contains a great deal of the same information that the Military.com site provides.
-
My AFN
The TV and Radio station provider for the base.
-
JDVC Main Page
This is the Japan District Veterinary Command website. Read everything it contains, if you plan to bring your furry friend(s) with you to Iwakuni. It's a long, painful process, but if you really want to bring your pet, this is where you find out how to proceed.

Diddlefinger Maps

-
Hypderdia
Hyperdia.com is a nice resource for traveling within Japan. Click the English in the top left corner of the page next to the search boxes to begin. Then enter the starting point and destination (such as Narita to Iwakuni), then click Search. On the next page, you can further define your starting and destination points, choose whether you wish to include travel by airlines or shinkansen or both, dates and times of departure, type of seat, etc. Then click Start to see the resulting options based on your input.
-
Up Up Down (GPS Maps of Japan in English)
If you have a compatible GPS unit, you can purchase maps of Japan in English at this web site. We have a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx and the maps work on it. You will need about 1 Gb of memory to store all maps with topography, but you can select smaller areas at a time if you need to. Please realize that most roads in Japan don't have names, but the major roadways are marked on the maps, and even with this limitation, we have found it very useful.
